Your cottage will be available for you to check in from 4pm onwards. The cottage will be unlocked, with the key left inside, so you can head straight in. Please follow the on-site signage to your cottage, observing the 5MPH speed limit at all times.

Free parking is available adjacent to your cottage. Parking is at your own risk.

A guide book is available in your cottage with this information, and safety guidance.

under 18’s

Please note that Under 18’s may not enter the Spa Rooms, Outdoor Pool, gym, or Treatment Rooms. Accompanied access (one adult per two children) is allowed during specific swim hours. If you breach these rules, you’ll be asked to leave the Health Club, and we reserve the right to refuse further entry.

We don’t provide travel cots, so please bring your own. We can provide a high chair and Shnuggle bath or larger baby tub if requested in advance of your stay.

departure

Please vacate your cottage by 10am on the day of your departure, and leave the key inside the cottage. It’s vital that we have enough time to complete our COVID cleaning protocols, so please help us by checking out promptly, and leaving linen and towels in the laundry bags provided.

You are very welcome to use the facilities at Energise Pentney and book treatments post check out for up to three hours. Please ensure you’ve checked out completely by 10AM, and remember to take your robes and towels over to the spa with you.

Please note that dogs may not be left in vehicles or unattended, and cannot be left in the cottage past 10AM.

We’re pleased to offer complimentary use of our gym, pool and spa facilities to our guests. Please visit the Energise Pentney website to find out more and view our pool timetable for children’s swim hours.

Children’s swim hours apply to anyone aged under 18, and children must be accompanied by one adult to every two children. Children do not have access to the outdoor pool, spa or gym, and cannot swim outside of family swim hours.

Access cards will be waiting for you in your cottage; please use these to sign in at the Welcome Desk and operate your locker; our friendly team will be able to assist you in using the facilities. You’ll need to fill out a disclaimer on your first visit.

We highly recommend booking for treatments at our on-site spa during your stay, and we’re pleased to offer a 10% discount on all treatments to our guests (excluding special offers). You can book quickly and easily online here. Appointments fill up quickly, so do make sure you book ahead. Please note that Treatments are only available to over 18’s, and tinting/lash lifts require a patch test 24 hours in advance.

Please be aware that National Highways will be doing roadworks (between 8PM and 6AM, weeknights only) on the A47, so diversions will be in place at various moving points.

Most major supermarkets, including Tesco, Sainsburys and Ocado, deliver to Nar Valley Cottages, and you are welcome to arrange a delivery during your stay.

Please make sure you’re at the cottage for the delivery, as we can’t store or unpack deliveries for you, or give the Driver access.

basics & supermarkets

There's a convenience shop located at Norfolk Woods Resort, just across the A47 (0.7 miles), as well as shopping in Swaffham (10 minute drive) and King’s Lynn (15 minute drive).

The Norfolk Woods convenience shop opening hours are 8AM - 5PM daily. (Please note that these hours may differ).

Head out on to the A47 to Swaffham (10 minutes) for Waitrose, Tesco and Asda, as well as a host of smaller shops. Check out The Green Parrot for eco-friendly and health conscious foods, or visit from Curry With Love for a curry DIY kit! Drive along the A47 towards King’s Lynn (15 minutes), and you’ll find the Hardwick Estate, with a 24hr Tesco, and large chain shops.

There are petrol stations located in Swaffham and King’s Lynn.

A bag of charcoal is provided for the BBQ, you can purchase additional bags at Reception if desired.

A basket of firewood is also provided in cottages with a wood burner (Gig House and Cart Lodge) - additional wood can be purchased from Reception.

You will need to book well ahead for taxi services here as our location is quite remote. We recommend King’s Abbey Taxi’s, available on 01553 760600, or Swaffham Taxi’s on 07528 535044. A list of wheelchair accessible taxis can be found here. There’s no Uber here, so please don’t forget to book in advance!

don’t forget to bring wellies, flip flops if you wish to use the spa, and you might like to bring spare towels for the pool.

Nar Valley Cottages are situated in picturesque Pentney, on the same farm as Energise Pentney Health Club, a stone’s throw from your cottage. As our guest, you can enjoy complimentary access to the facilities there, including our outdoor heated vitality pool, saunas, steam rooms, gym and swimming pool.

Our guests can also enjoy 10% off any treatments at our on-site treatment rooms; from deeply relaxing 90 minute spa rituals, to facials and manicures - you can choose and book your treatments here.

Your access card and cotton robe will be waiting for you in your cottage; head over at your leisure and the team will show you around. You don’t need to pre-book a time to use any of the facilities, but please pre-book treatments - we’re normally fully booked.

Opening times apply. Over 18’s only, except in the swimming pool, where children’s swim hours apply.

Please check opening times before visiting, as many places are seasonal. We’ve highlighted dog friendly places, but you should always check yourself in case this changes.

history & culture

Check what’s on at West Acre Theatre; they lots of amazing events including jazz picnics, outdoor cinema screenings and more!

Pop in to Swaffham Museum and learn about Howard Carter, who excavated of the tomb of Tutankhamun in Egypt, in 1922.

Visit Sandringham House & Gardens, the much-loved country retreat of Her Majesty The Queen and the private home of four generations of British monarchs since 1862.

Explore Holkham Hall, visit the stunning Anish Kapoor exhibition at Houghton Hall, or admire the stunning moat and estate at Oxburgh Hall - keep an eye out for the hidden priest hole too!

Head to Castle Acre Priory and Castle ruins, and stop for lunch at Wittles cafe, or 16thC The Ostrich Inn.

For lovely local artwork, wire sculptures and plants, stop by Studio at the Hollies, in Pentney, where local artist, Jo Pluckrose, has lots to explore!

family days out

There are brilliant family attractions here in West Norfolk, including; Snettisham Park, Church Farm Stow Bardolph, Bircham Windmill (where you can make your own bread!), Sea Life Hunstanton and their seal rescue centre. A little further but worth the drive, Roarr Dinosaur Adventure!

For beach days head to Old Hunstanton for stretches of sand, or Hunstanton to see the stunning chalk cliffs. Both are part of the only stretch of Norfolk’s coast to face west - well worthy of note considering Norfolk is on the East coast of England. This means not only are the beaches here sheltered, but they are perfectly located to take in a sunset, and maybe find a fossil if you're lucky! For rainy days, head over to Norwich and bounce out some energy at High Altitude Trampoline Park!

Enjoy a five mile circular walk along the River Nar, passing the Narborough Bone Mill with it’s fascinating history, across ever changing fields and enjoy the stunning countryside views.

Or take a stroll around the village and see how many animals you can spot!

Explore the Narborough Railway Line; one of the best sites for butterflies in Norfolk, with at least 30 species recorded.

Take in some riverside views or walk through mixed woods and farmland whilst enjoying the wealth of historic buildings and ruins along the Nar Valley Way.

At Shouldham Warren country park you’ll find plenty of space to walk and play; head to the award winning The King’s Arms, Shouldham, for a drink afterwards!

There are no less than 20 golf courses within 20 miles of us, including Heacham Manor, Middleton Golf Club, and the 9 Hole Golf Course at Searles Golf and Country Club in Hunstanton. Tee off at Swaffham Golf Club and save 10% on your green fee as our guest; just let them know you’re staying here when booking.

Narborough Fisheries, in the next village along, is situated in its own private 26 acres, with beautiful chalk stream water from the River Nar running through five fishing lakes, it’s a fishermen’s heaven.

Premier Ski School at nearby Pentney Lakes offer water-skiing and banana boats; find out more by calling 01760 444434, or check out Hunstanton Watersports for specialist instruction in Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, Stand Up Paddleboard and Powerkiting.

If you’d prefer to stay on dry land, take a look at Anglia Karting, they also offer clay shooting (advance booking required).

food & drink

Head to West Acre Gardens & the delightful Apple Cafe for a light lunch or spot of tea & cake. It’s dog friendly and lovely to mooch around their beautiful walled garden. On the way in you’ll spot a sculpture by Antony Gormley, who lives on the estate. Seasonal opening times, so check ahead. (Dog friendly)

Make your way to Arbuckles in Downham Market for American-style food in a relaxed setting - just make sure you leave room for dessert!

Head to The Bedingfeld Arms (dog friendly outside) for a country pub with great food (adjacent to National Trust property, Oxborough Hall, so make a day of it!) for a great Sunday lunch.

The Hare Arms at Stow Bardolph is lovely, and great for lunch after visiting Church Farm (petting farm) next door!

We also recommend The Ffolkes, it’s perfect for groups with a ‘feasting menu’ that changes daily; it’s large outdoor play area will keep any smaller guests happy too! (Dog friendly)

If you’re heading to Castle Acre to see the Castle & priory ruins, stop for fish & chips just off the Main Street (by the village shop), Wittles for light lunches, excellent cake, coffee and lovely takeaway picnics.

Slightly further, but worth the drive for the atmosphere, you’ll find The Dabbling Duck, a well loved British country pub offering everything from breakfast to wood fired pizzas, in beautiful Great Massingham. (Dog friendly).

Talking of beers, we love Duration, an award winning brewery just down the road from us in West Acre. They often run fantastic Tap Days on Fridays and Saturdays, with food trucks and plenty of outdoor space, making for a great atmosphere. Mention you’re our guests for 10% discount! (Family and dog friendly)

Drive to nearby Middleton Steakhouse & Grill for great steak and vegan alternatives (it can get quite busy so try to avoid peak times).

King’s Lynn has lots of well-known high-street restaurants, but we highly recommend trying out The Bank House on the historic docks (particularly the seafood- yum!)

We highly recommend taking at look at Owsley-Brown Catering; just a few miles up the road from us. Check to see if they’re running any pop-up restaurant events in their beautiful tipi and take your own drinks!

Give Donato’s Pizza & Kebab House a call for some great takeaway food (collection from nearby Marham, cash only) and humongous pizzas (up to 24”) that are perfect for sharing! Give good old Mr Chips in Swaffham a call for delivery!

For Indian takeaway, we recommend ordering for delivery from Indian Summer in Swaffham.

If you fancy Chinese and Cantonese, you could order takeaway from The Ship Inn for delivery right to your door.

Or hire in a private chef and let them take care of everything, right down to the washing up! We recommend wonderful Lucy, at Wild Lulita.
